WHY I haven't been posting

For those have you who have been following ILOVEHISHMA, you'll know that its author, Pixie, has been overloaded with packing for her move to UAE (short-term), switching flats back in Canada, and planning her (aka mine) Canadian civil service wedding (along with attending iftars and studying Islam during Ramadan). Soooo, I am glad to announce, alhamdulilah, the civil service is done, and I am officially lawfully married. These are some of the pictures from our special day. DO NOT RE-POST THEM ANYWHERE ON THE NET WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! Grrrr, lol. So, I sewed my own dress (it cost a total of $30.00 CAD but took over sixteen hours to make). Its a bit old fashioned and has a vinatgey feel to it. I hand beaded smoky topaz coloured swarowski crystals and seed-pearls on the lace applique, made my own veil out of tulle and silk and a vintage necklace, and borrowed Boxie's lacy embroidered hijab from Kuwait.I also gained ten lbs (alhamdulilah cuz I was a bit too underweight for a while and was starting to look like a prepubescent boy) before cutting the dress, so it was a little more modest when I began (since I didn't have curves lol) so if I had it to do over, I would loosen the waist seems and cut the belt, but since it was women and my family mainly, it wasn't really any big deal. But Boxie had fun doing me up and pulled a muscle (my Dad had to help lol). My sister Jane wore a Tiffany-box blue dress and pearls, and Boxie (I'll post a pic maybe later) wore hat hijab and looked oh-so fine in purple. My Daddy wore a tie for the first time since his own wedding way back, and the guests were a mix of formal and informal. LOL, one of the couples who attended were the owners of the school where my husband and I met, and they had brought a guest from Taiwan to show her a "traditional" Canadian wedding, and we all joked that she'd be rather confused because my wedding included, suit and tie, jeans and a t-shirt, thobe, salwar kameez, hijab, and white wedding dress, lol.
Explaining Canadian traditions (like smooshing cake into the face of the groom) to one Saudi sister, made her (and Y) quite horrified. Needless to say I left off on the cake smooshing. Mainly since my wedding cake was ice cream cake. That'd be a bit cruel. But I had fun, mainly taking pics before the getting together of everyone. Preparing the food in full formal wear was a bit stressful though. And the groom forgetting the marriage liscence and having to drive an hour into the city to go get it lol. ANNNNND the wedding cake melting because of this, so it had to be served up in one big bowl, lol. Icecream cakes do not make good wedding cakes ya'll, lol, even if they are yummy, he he he. So inshaAllah your Ramadan is going well, and I hope to write more soon inshaAllah.

Mashallah, you outdid yourself with the dress....absolutely beautiful. I wish I could really "see" you though...but I know why you choose to white out your faces. May Allah bless your union. Congratulations.:)

zanjabil: Jazzakallah kheir. LOL, I stayed up till six in the morning because I kept puting off sewing the sleeves on. Yeah, sorry I could show my make-up but I don't like puting my face up on the net, since inshaAllah I hope to wear niqab full-time soon in most non-maharam instances.

Anonymous: Jazzakallah kheir for your best wishes. May Allah subhanhu wa ta'ala bless all my sisters in Islam with good Muslim husbands.

No, I know for a fact my husband will never take a second wife, unless I am the one that finally convinces him to do so. He is much opposed to it, unless the man is an an amazing Muslim, and my husband doesn't see himself trying that hard. I am more okay with with polygany than he is, lol.

Just to let you know, I don't post any anonymous comments, so next time, sign with a made up name at the bottom, like this

Thank you again for your best wishes!

Alabaster Muslim: Wa alaykom e salaam ramatullahi wa barakto. Jazzakallah kheir sister. Yes, we had our nikah forver ago now, lol.

As for my dress, anyone who wants to can buy it, but they have to be a size two or less, lol, and five foot 1---five foot 4 (no heels with five foot four). And you'd want to hand wash the hem lol. And it doesn't come with the hijab (that belongs to Boxie). $100.00 CAD for the dress and $20.00 CAD for the veil. LOL. Serriously, if there are any takers I'll probably handwash it myself, lol.

I will start up "Vintage Muslimah" soon, and we will take consignment offers too, if sisters can take good pictures. InshaAllah, after Ramadaan though!

MashaAllah.. you look so beautiful.. I love your dress.. If I could have my wedding all over again, I would choose something like this, because my wedding dress was too tight now that I think about it, and I kind of regret it.. :(...anyway, the marriage is more important than the wedding, and I'm very happy Alhamdulillah...

Your dress is beautiful! I'm insanely impressed you made it yourself. :)

I'm glad the day went well for y'all.

Salam,
I don't mean to be rude, just curious because you always guide sisters to not wear form fitting clothing and items that expose the body, yet I notice here that your dress is very waist cinching and clearly defines your chest and your scarf doesn't cover your chest at all. These are just things I have noticed that you guide others on, yet you did not do them yourself.

I love the bottom half of the dress. It is very nice and the netting is beautiful, Masha'Allah!

I thought you would be wearing a jilbab for your wedding. I would have loved to see you in a pretty lace jilbab like the ones you have posted before!

I can not see your face, but from what I can see of the dress, I think you look absolutely beautiful and I am sure you were a happy bride on the day.

By the way; your dress reminds me of that Pride & Prejudice movie!

Masha'Allah! Your dress is soo beautiful!! Congrats, I'm glad you had a good time :D I have noticed you haven't been posting a lot recently. You might be surprised but I'm an avid follower of your blog and was of the last too and Alhamduli'Allah have learnt a lot from your posts over the past year or so, a lot more than you'd think actually! Thank you for that! Ramadan Kareem :)

Umm Adam: Wa alaykom e salaam ramatullahi wza barakto. LOL, to be honest my dress was way to tight. When I started sewing it my chest was pretty flat and my waist two inches less, so it was loose. Now it is not very good hijab to me. Except the bottom part:D
Pixie said…
Aalia: LOL, show me a pick of your dress and I can sew you your own custom veil if you want---but of course anything of mine that you want I can give you, sis.

Mini-Me: Jazzakallah kheir. I sew by hand. And I failed home ec class. LOL, so it can be learned with time. I started sewing curtains for my bedroom and by curtain two I could sew. Have to admit, the first curtain looks UG-LEEEEEEE but the second attempt was soooo nice, I kept sewing things.
Pixie said…
Amber: Thank you! InshaAlllah I'll get to see you happily married to a good man:D
Pixie said…
Muslimah: Wa alaykom e salaam ramatullahi wa barakto! LOL, I am not offended--- you are right on a number of points lol. As I said in the post (saying please don't re-post these pics) I gained ten lbs since making the dress. It was originally as loose as one of my abayas (else I would never sew a belt on). I only tried on the finished product the morning of, lol, and my girl Boxie actually pulled a muscle zipping me up---and my father had to help her (my sister and father held it closed while Boxie pulled the zipper up) lol. So, moral of the story is, don't go for a fitted abaya style if you might gain weight he he he. As for the hijab, these pics were for family. When we got to the site where there were non-maharams I had a little cream hijab under the beige lacy one I untucked out of my bra he he he and could it down in front of my husband's friends (husbands of my girls:D). Sisters still keep your chests covered:D

I wish I could have bought a real abaya or dress as a caftan but honest I had no money right now, with saving for my move to UAE and quitting my job so that I could find a job that would let me wear niqab. So make dua for me!

Zaenab: wa alaykom e salaam ramatullahi wa barakato sister! Jazzakallah kheir. I am glad you like my blogs. Sorry I haven't been posting as much recently, life has just been so busy with Ramadan, this wedding business, and especially moving. In less then ten days (I think) I 'll be in UAE, looking for work, visiting my girl Aalia with Boxie, and blogging alot about Gulf fashions... We hope to make alot of videos and take alot of pictures.

Mabrook sis! I´m so happy for you! I was thinking where to find that kind of beautiful and so modest dress but you made yourself, darn. :) so skillfull, beautiful, my style, everything. didn´t think you would wear traditional western-style wedding gown. so elegant way to show non-muslims that hijab doens´t stop us and that we can be beautiful and modest.
congratulations again and i miss your postings.

Aww I can't even begin to say how happy I am for you. Its so much easier to be legally married, and I'm so happy that your family was able to be involved as well. I wish you many happy years together InshaAllah!

Sarah: thanks for your (kinda rude since you said absoultelty nuthin' nice) comment. LOL, being sarcastic. #1 my face is swiped out so I do not care as much, #2, I don't intend to keep the pics up forver but I did wanna show my beloved blogging sisters my dress, #3 it was very close to being the perfect hijab I wanted it to be until I gained some weight so please don't be rude about that. It is still hijab but too tight to be jilbab. And I mentioned that so no sisters try and copy THAT aspect of my dress, cuz that was something I stressed about.
#4 if you are going to say this is a public site that non-maharam men can see, I guess I should not post pictures of ANY woman in any shape of form, which is a line of thinking I do not subscribe to personally. The only thing I DO subscribe to is when posting any "hijab" fashion one should point out where it fails as hijab if it does, and sadly, mine does at the waistline. LOL, cuz happily, I no longer look like a boy!!!! He he he.

All: I said already I agined weight so it is too tight. Please don't bring that up again. And my hijab DID cover my chest when non-maharams were around so sorry I didn't take pictures then (it was dark so those didn't turn out good!)

And congratulations Pixie!
I really do love your dress regardless and I would love to have it (like 5 years from now haha) But I'm too tall!
But the whole vintage-y vibe is definitely inspiration for my wedding dress in the future.

By the way, insha'Allah everything goes well for you in the UAE!

Pixie, Masha'allah your dress was beautiful. Tight or not, it's your wedding day, and you were with your husband and family, i.e I doubt any man is going to look at you and think sinfully. You totally outdid yourself with the sewing. So talented Mashallah. Congratulations again, and may Allah grant you both a happy life together. Welcome back to the Arabian Gulf.

Pixie, Mabruk! I am so pleased to hear that you were able to take care of the legal wedding and that everything went over well. And that dress is just delicious masha'Allah!

The nice thing that turned me on to vintage is that the headcoverings from, say, the 1940s are extraordinarily hijab friendly - basically you could walk around in a one-piece Amira and no one would think there was anything the least bit strange going on...

I really like your take on the veil - insha'Allah I would like to make one similar to it if I get married. Or I might not even wait. Let's say there are advantages to being tall: you can get away with wearing certain types of extreme looks on an everyday basis without looking totally ridiculous. Already got the pattern in fact :D

Am encouraged to hear you sew by hand. Everything I've read suggests that if you know what you're doing, you'll get better results that way than you'd ever get with a machine. So that when I get rid of those last 5 kg and start redoing my wardrobe, I will no doubt do the same insha'Allah.

Now let us know when you have Vintage Muslimah up and running, OK? I may not be a Muslimah, but I am a hijabi, and I am going to be sitting on needles until I get to see your nice new site!
