I hate cleavage. On arab ladies at ladies-only-parties (I mean come ON---I don't care how sexy you are, keep that at home for your husband). If the depth of your cleavage is bigger than my hand it makes you look cheap. Even Salma Hayek, gorgeous lady that she is, looks cheap flashing her cleavage at other women. It IS good for your husband. Do it there, for him. You aren't supposed to show your sexual adornments for anyone BUT your husband and for medical reasons to a doctor after you hit puberty.

Do you know what's even worse than Arabic parties' cleavage? Work cleavage. IF I CAN'T CONCENTRATE on anything but your chest, how IS a man supposed to feel? Don't wear cleavage bearing tops at work. I find it is sexual harassment for MY EYES! I know this isn't most Muslimahs at work:D but I can't stand people that look at my abayas like they wouldn't be work appropriate but are okay with a forty year old woman's sagging sacks in my face. They are beautiful----to her husband. I DON'T NEED/WANT to see them!!!! Grrrrr. Same goes for parties ladies. My Grandma's rule: a cleavage line longer than your thumb's nail is cheap and tacky.

I totally agree. I'm not distracted by a tiny bit of cleavage and I guess for a women's only party, I don't care, but that clevage in the picture above is really not appropriate for anyone but the woman's husband!

I agree, cleavage terrifies me. I think its fine to dress fancy at women's only parties however the heavy makeup and lots of flesh baring should stay at home.

I would have agreed with you, but you used Salma Hayek as an example and I adore her and everything she does !

Jaz: I love her in the black t shirt! She just does too much cleavage sometimes:D

What scares me more is when Muslimah sisters scarves fly up with the wind, and reveal cleavage they were covering with a long sleeved tunic! So bad. But right on Pixie, Salma Hayek is the best example of someone who should hide her assets. I honestly think she'd be more beautiful too. Love you lots.

Lisa: ughhh, yeah, been there, done that, as a new hijabi I didn't have much in the way of a wardrobe transition trend, and the scarf a popping was embarrassing. No sin, unlesss of course, unless I didn't learn from that indiscretion the first three or so times. Allah subhanhu wa ta'ala knows I'm not stupid and can afford saftey pins even when I can't abayaat:D

Salma is soooooo pretty mashaAllah. The flesh is really so distracting from that that her face just disapears.... Sad to me when she is soooooo lovely to look at:D

as salamu alaykum her breasts offend me hahah. i should get used to it because majority of my friends like to showcase their chests. but it always offend me. and i saw an old lady with her breasts hanging outside. ewwwww i was really offended

i haaaate this!
always happens at arab parties - i always end up trying to avoid the girl with the boobs in everyone's faces

lol! I agree with you! It's kind of terrifying when my eyes just keep looking "down" to the woman' cleavage!
We see far too many things pertaining to women and#or men nowadays....

too right, I have some saudi friends and they terrify me with tales about their 'women parties'. i think it's bad taste, sorry, but many poeple over there seems to have bad taste...

Sheesh what's with the Arab bashing? I know more white women who have their cleavage hanging out than any Arab. And seriously, what is so offensive about the human body? Hardly a healthy response to be 'afraid' of other women's bodies is it?

It really embarasses me when women bare too much at ladies only parties. Remember the woman at the aqiqa who was having a hard time keeping her (lovely) dress on? *blush* It's so hard not to look, it's just there!

I agree that's it's sexual harassment for our eyes! The girls at school don't have to adhere to ANY sort of dress code, I find it very uncomfortable working with a girl who's wearing a low-cut top and nothing else. Nope, no pants either. Gah!

well, Its not about arabs only. Acc. to our religion a women is not allowed to uncover her body from above the breasts till thighs/knees even in front of other women. So, can you show the cleavage thing even in women only parties?

I hate it when i am going somewhere with my husband and suddenly see any girl (even muslim) showing off her thumb nail size cleavage OR her bra is showing from under her clothes cuz she was wearing such thin clothes. What a shame!!!!!!!!!!

i dont know why some ladies are selling their modesty for nothing...

Ya'Allah please guide us women for what is good for them and what is bad.

Wallahu A'llam.......

Salma Hayek does look fab in that black shirt!
and yes, cleavage at work is disgusting, too much cleavage on women parties is akward too. but lil bit is ok i guess lol so i agree with your grandma LOL

at the same time i dont agree with Celeritas...what's wrong with heavy make up on women parties????
Pixie said…
Farah: I am using an example I have seen. I have honestly never seen any other Muslim women doing this but I am sure it goes beyond one group. LOL. It is just something we all expect better from Muslimahs.
Pixie said…
Suslique: I think she [Celeritas] means the drag queen look (the girls that don't make wudu even if they've broken theirs for fear of ruining their cake face of make-up:D).

how is knowing someones name going to make a difference as long as they have a beneficail input that people can learn from its ok if they are rude or writting bad stuff then fine dont publish them ut really sister i think you beign unffair!

-manal
hope this satisfiyes you inshaalah
Pixie said…
Manal: I know alot of sisters have really nice things to say and publish under anonymous. And some troublemakers use anonymous too. If people always sign something, we don't have confusion over the issue, and I have found from four years now on blogger, it causes way less trouble. I don't have to know someone's real name, just have some kind of title or username to respond to. It isn't unfair. I went to the trouble of requesting commentators be polite nd sign with some way of addressing them besides anonymous in TWO posts, and MY COMMENT box. I put alot of work into my blogs and if people aren't willing to put in the effort of signing an alais (I mean, make one up if you want to), they are being rude to me, and all the other commentators that do.
Pixie said…
I think there was one other anonymous besides Manal (that's why I need some sort of thing to address people) but I can't be sure until your sign your anony comment. I just plain old delete ALL anony comments now so if they aren't signed and you just forgot to please re-post them. We would love to discuss your thoughts:D I have found it decreases fitnah online so if you want to participate on the ILOVEHISHMA blog site, please follow our policy.

I have to agree with what you have to say. I think it's ashame though that so many girls may dress appropriately on the streets, for example wearing abayas or jilbabs, but then will wear mini skirts and shorter tops infront of their female friends, completely forgetting that it is haram for another women to see between their knees and belly button! this says one thing to me, that they do not truely understand why they are wearing hijab, and they just wear it as a norm of culture or because their mum said 'you have to!'
