Jum'a Thoughts: Guarding Your Jum'a from bi'das

After prayer we always like to make dua. MashaAllah, this is always a good thing, but doing it in congregation after the Shiekh has finished his khutbah is not, because it is a bid'a for the congregation to raise their hands in a gathering like this (not privately after their own salat) for ANY other situation but a PRAYER FOR RAIN. Don't add bid'as to your Jum'a salat. Wait till after the salat to make your dua, don't do it after the khutbah. The Sahaba NEVER made a public dua after the khutbah of the Prophet sallalahu allahi wa salaam except in instance of asking for rains to end a period of drought. If you see another sister or a male member of your family doing this bi'da of raising the hands after the khutbah, wait till after Jum'a service to advise them that the only time it was down by the Sahabiyat was when asked for rain. Advise them gently and kindly about this innovation to their salat, as I was cautioned kindly by sister Aalia (lol, I wasn't doing that but I learned something anyway).

salam aleikum sister

I have consulted my husbad who mashalah has done more studies in Islam than I, in my short life. He said there is nothing wrong about such dua(though I myslef never make it). Sahaba has never had a mobile phone or never drove a car but that does not make it bid'a. Bid'a was added after the death of the Prophet by the way therefore you may want to ask yourself how sunna way it is. Also if you go to al Haram mosque in Meka, which is the heart of Islam on the Earth, and all the scholars pray there, you would find such congregational dua's made all the time. Therefore I think you need to look for more evidence and make up your mind.

masalam
trully yours

Wa alaykom e salaam ramatullah barakto sister Rasa:

I did my research and my Shiekh (who did numerous years of study in Al Madinah) just did a khutbah on this very subject. My husband, who knows more about Islam than I do, also was of the opinion that this kind of dua was okay, until he looked into the evidence. It was never done by the Prophet S.A.W and since the Juma service is part of the worship it is changing the way we do worship. The manner of worship orginated with Allah subhanhu wa ta'ala and not with men, and so, unlike cell phones and cars, it is not something that we can innovate things in. Yes, it is OKAY to make dua by lifting the hands AFTER jum'a salat, or after any salat, but not after the khutbah. You will never see the educated men in Mecca raising their hands after the friday khutbah in dua because it is an error in the completion of Jum'a.
Salaamuaalikum Rasa...
A mobile phone and a car have nothing to do with islam or bid'a (camels were transportation and migrating and traveling was a way to communicate) because the word bid'a means innovation meaning something new in THE RELIGION. Bid'a means something that started AFTER the prophet salaalahu alayhi salaam. i just thought id mention that. Salaamualaikum

Seriously? I never knew that. Everyone in the world does it lol you only have to watch Khutbas on TV to see.
Asalaamu `alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakato

I agree with Pixie's post; and the Sister above me is right. Cars & mobiles having *nothing* to do with bidah...

I did a quick Google search and apparently wiping your face after making du'aa is bid'ah as well. :S

yeah, i see that happen all the time.. i mean, its more likely that people lift their hands in jumuah, than that they dont.. i really wish i could talk to them, off course in a gentle way, but the problem is so many people take it as criticism when one try to "help".. but its better to start with people you know than to start with strangers, because most of them just get mad. its just thats it really sad that when one give advice and the other one gets mad, because we really should help each other to worship Allah in the way that is permitted, and to leave the bid'ah.. may Allah guide us all, amin

so are you saying that during taraweh prayer in ramadan for example we shouldn't make dua during prayer along w the sheik as well or is this only for jumaa prayer?
Pixie said…
Eloquence: only after Jum'a khutbah. After the salat it remains fine and of the sunnah.
