Are You Afraid? Have fear of none but Allah...

Lots of of us are afraid. I was afraid I would lose my family, my income, my place to live... if I became a Muslim. In the end I realized, I already WAS a Muslim, all I had left to do was make my shahada, so there was no fighting it. I lost my family my means of supporting myself and my income, but Allah restored them to me ya subhanallah, and provided me with a husband who supported me until I found a job and who gave me place to live. When I wore hijab, I was afraid they could not like it in workplaces but I knew I deserved the jobs out there, so I PROVED IT. When I started to wear mainly black jilbab (after I had already been physically attacked and sexually and racially attacked for simply wearing headscarf) my husband was afraid for me, and said if I wanted to I could keep wearing pants and long coats. I said, no. If I am doing something that pleases Allah, He alone will protect me (not Western clothing) and if something harms me when I am obeying Him, it is for good and not evil. A difficult thing for a husband that wants to protect a woman to accept, sure. I have to this date never been attacked for wearing my jilbab.

Some people say obeying the mere commandments in the Qu'ran and sunnah are out looking for trouble. No, auoothoobillahi this is not so! There is a difference between wearing proper hijab and doing the plain dumb stupid stunt pictured below:
This man is doing something that Allah says in the Qu'ran we are not to do, and that is kill ourselves. By the action of his own stunt, using the car in that manner, he may crush himself. By wearing hijab, or jilbab, or niqab, the fabric cannot harm me. People might go out of their way to, but it is quite a different thing to have that Saudi dude die by this car toppling on him, than for him to be dressed in nice clothes to go to Jummah salat and deposit sadaqah in the Masjid box and then be mugged and killed for that money simply because he looked like he had some. That is the difference between killing one's self, and obeying Allah.

Now a sister recently worte me about the dangers of wearing niqab, and another about the dangers of wearing hijab. I will say the same thing to my husband who fears for my safety as I start to wear niqab and to those sisters around me. This is what the Messenger of Allah sallalahu alahi wa salaam and the Companions said: "Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best to determine our affairs."

Pixie,
I was trying to pull out all your niqab posts for a friend, would you be willing to add a search box or label sidebar? Or perhaps I am not seeing something... Eeeek, is this too much to ask from a stranger? I love your blog.

I wonder if the whole point of hijab/niqab is not to attract attention then wearing it in the west would not be the best idea am I right, considering wearing the hijab/niqab would attract a lot of atention.

Oh Pixie, please feel free to email me! I had no idea you were abused because of your hijab! Astagfiruallah, but mashallah that you still continued with hijab undeterred.

Oh my gosh, I wonder what kind of insurance policy this stuntman has?? That is unbelievable that this would be allowed. It's an accident waiting to happen!

The only unsafe thing about niqaab could be seeing in your blindspot while driving. But, this can easily be prevented by pulling the niqaab back towards the ears.

But, one could always ride on the bus or bike, and really that is safer anyway. We had 40,000 car crash deaths in Texas alone last year. Great post. Love you sweetie.

Jamilah (not Blogger Jamilah): that is a big misunderstanding people seem to have about hijab. We ARE SUPPOSED to we garments that dstinguish us/mae us stand out from the NON MUSLIMS. Hijab is not supposed to make us stand out among the Muslims (i.e b sexually attractive or distinguising of rank).
Erm, I hope that is soda the chick is drinking in the last pic LOL.

Hey darlin, Miss ya so much....

Yes when you do finally just face your fears and smack that hijab and abaya on you feel like you conquered the world...erm of course after you stop looking over your shoulder every two minutes...hehehe

Excellent post hon.

Jamila, the whole point of wearing hijab ISN"T to not attract attention really, it is to please Allah by being modest and covering your body as it should properly be covered. So using that whole attention getting gear isn't safe idea is not valid excuse NOT to put your hijabs on. It's jsut grasping for straws.... may Allah make it easy for us to wear it and keep it on!

You'll have to share some of those 'dangers' someone wrote to you about.

And thanks for clearing up that Jamila is not me... If we wear it and it attracts attention, they have nothing to see, now do they?

Asalaam walikum

In regards to attracting attention, like Pixie said its big misunderstanding. I'm no scholar or person with lots of knowledge, but it would seem likely that the meaning of drawing attention is sexual attention or attention of arrogance. People stand out in the crowd everyday, but it depends on what type of attention, which I believe for us means sexual attention and the alike. But no matter what you do really, theres going to be some part of you that a man will be attracted to. But as long as your obeying Allah's commands of dress then thats sufficient.

Almaleena: I agree, arrogance and sex, two things no Muslim should have out on their person when they hit the streets.
