QUESTION: What are your sources saying that wearing colour is halal?

I had a reader ask me the following question: Where are your sources for promoting women to wear colours when the scholars say dark colours are best?

Milda: I just started it recently, as a trial. So please don't be angry. LOL, I still don't know how to time anything so the vids are kinda dull.

Milda: it is a pink strap niqab (it was a flip niqab but I cut the flip part off of it) and a floral shayla from Suzy Sheir---I just wear it in this style http://ilovehishmatheblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/how-to-wear-hijab-video-saudi-shayla.html. I like to wear it with a white abaya but I do have a matching pink one (but I feel like a bottle of pepto bismol in head-to-toe pink).

I love the other niqab you have in the video talking to the Saudi bros. Did you do the beading yourself?

Salaam alaikum,
JazakAllah kheir for posting this! I'm so tired of hearing sisters say that women can't wear colour- I'm sure the sisters have the best of intentions, but it's just NOT true!

By the way, that niqab is so cute! I love the beads along the top- did you add those yourself?

Cheers!

MashaAllam for this post and this vlog.

People REALLY need to understand the separation between one country's culture, and what Islam actually is.

I wear all black abaya out of convenience of matching my colorful hijabs to it, and the "gemtle" cold water wash cycles in the machine.

I really appreciate your constant efforts to share true Islam with people with proof given, instead of some of the Friday Night Fatwas some people present. You're doing a really good deed, giving good dawah. May Allah reward your efforts and be pleased with you. Ameen.

Pixie,

Okay, this is only vaguely (tangentially) related to this post, but it was the closest one I could find for being 'on topic'.

A friend of mine who is a niqabi but not Muslim went into a new Islamic clothing store where she lives the other day wearing a red niqab, and was reacted to very strangely, then, the owner explained to her:

"The lady (in a very sweet way, bless her) told me that a red niqab means a declaration of war, that all the men are dead or severely wounded, and that the women are to prepare themselves to fight in any way necessary."

She was embarrassed and, of course, she'd never heard this before. I suggested it might be cultural, but thought to ask you if you'd ever heard of this before? Obviously you know much more about niqab than either of us.

Thanks,
Amber

Amber: Um, I think that is totally cultural, not Islamic. Lady Aisha R.A. wore that colour all the time (and war was not declared for it lol).
