PURELY PIXIE: a "peasant" abaya

The current casual staple for any Omani girl's wardrobe for this year last was the "peasant" abaya. Lace smocking and panels across the chest and down the arms, and drawstring rope belt at the waist. I don't like how some girl's don't bother to have it sewn so that it doesn't make the curves of the butt obvious but I own more than one abaya in this particular style, all black on black, and I sewed the drawstring so it doesn't pull. The one pictured is a brand name version, which means the lace, fabric, and detailing are of better quality materials and was 60 OMR. Others are 25 OMR.
The key to this style, beyond the drawstring belted waist and lace panel smocking is there are usuaully tiers or pleating on the bottom of the abaya which gives it a dress-feel.
I haven't really seen any of the better quality "peasant" abayas available online yet, just the cheap-o fabric ones I pay 9 OMR for over-priced to like 100 USD, which is a crime, seriously. So beyond what is costs, we wear these generally for work and casual stuff, nothing too fancy.

gahhhh its so pretty!!!
This is trending right now here in my little city in Saudi Arabia among the expat Arab national population... It's obvious they don't mind tying the cord in a way that shows their boobs & butts LoL :-b

Anonymous: The Seeb Exhibition center, when they have a shopping event on? They have all the ready-made abays from Dubai ect... there. They range from 8.5-15 OMR but you have to barter and know the fabrics are cheaper ect... Still totally wearable but not long-term wear. 4 months wear opposed to a year if you wash once a week ect and wear twice a week.

Modestly Me: Yeah, I like this style too;). Some friends back in Canada said they didn't like it though because of the belt and it can easily go wrong hijab-wise [agreed]. Also that it reminds them of Catholic friars lol. But for me, I don't think it has that effect when I wear it soooo, I like it.

Um 3lawi: Yeah! With some Omani girls too! On the tall skinny girls it's fine, but on the curvy girls, like myself, if they don't have it sewn to avoid pulling in all the wrong places, it goes to not-hijab very very quickly. :(

I like this style. anything with lace I seem to like. You pull it off in a modest way, but i could see some young girls pulling it tight.
