Abaya of the Month: April is hot a hot pink abaya

Now I know this is probably too much for some of you, and just enough for others, but this colour is so beautiful, and I asked my husband, and he says he totally thinks this is fine for where I live (LOL though maybe not the entire Muslim community). I really want this abaya from http://www.muslimahessentials.com/stylish-two-layer-jilbab-79-p.asp for $36.95 GBP. I would wear it for special occasions where I have to be very formal, the matching shayla draped in the Qatari style I posted a few pages back, with some pink crystal chandelier earrings. It would also be the perfect modesty make-over for Aishwarya Rai when she wore this dress....

It's lovely, and would totally suit you. But you're right, some of the locals would be shocked, lol.

Hiba: Let's face it Aishwarya would look pretty in a paper bag or wearing dishcloth, but this abaya'd look so fab on her. And she'd still be modest.

Anonymous: I have lived in Africa. but it'd be modest in the summer here in Canada (when non-muslim girls wear bright orange and yellow maxi dress) and with a plain black hijab and niqab, I'd wear it in India.

and I have seen a man who is very well on his way to becomming a Sheikh, mashaAllah, whose wife wears hijabs this colour. She also loves her black niqabs, but there is nothing immodest about the colour, only our perceptions of it. This would be perfectly modest in Malaysian, Indonesia, Africa, summer in my city.... I can't get over how a modest thing can be deemed immodest somewhere else. It is nonsensical.

That's like the prettiest color in the world. Not too sure if I'd wear it though.

It is not so hard. If you don't respect the other commentators who have done that enough to do so yourself, I may not post your comments, even if they, I love this outfit. We have found on other sites that this reduces fighting and arguments among the commentators.

Habibti: I feel the same, except I love black too, but I don't like brown (on me). Tans, beiges, I love. But I can't pull off milk chocolate without feeling I look like a monk.

Salaam alaikum,
Masha'Allah, this is very beautiful! But sister, I can't buy clothing online and all of the Islamic clothing stores here sell abayas for sooo much (a simple black abaya with no design or anything cost me 50$!)- can you post a pattern or give tips as to how to sew your own abaya?

Cheers.

There is nothing wrong with color. This abaya is beautiful. I would wear it for sure.. It would have been nice with very simple embrodery on... but then again it might end up looking like a galabiya..

anonymous is right too much expensive are the online abayas!! a pattern would be most welcome inchallah or a airfare for abu dhabi maybe??? lol

Pixie - muslim fashionista and fountain of knowledge on all things hoijab... what is your opinion on wearing earringS?

I love wearing earrings poking out form under my hijab etc... but some sisters feel it is an adornment and one should refrain?

What do others think?
Pixie said…
Chica: I love earrings and wear them out sometimes (I mean, what else are fancy stick pins but the same kind of decoration right?), but I think it is entirely safest not to, if you are not certain, and if you do, that no part of your head or neck shows.

umphhhh plizzzzzz lol can you change rai picture lol. i keep looking at the dress. i love it

Re: earrings, since there's nothing to say that they are/aren't permissible, who are we to decide what is/isn't 'safe'? How are they any different to rings and bracelets? It kinda reminds me of the ayah commanding women not to stamp their feet and jingle their anklets to draw attention to themselves: note the commandment was not to stamp the feet, NOT to remove the jewelry! Also we know women at the time of the Prophet wore all manner of jewelry - so as long as you have your neck and ears covered, who's to say we shouldn't?
RE earings, again Pixie plz do a post showing how you can possibly wear proper hijab and not show your ears but still show the earings. Casue i jsut don't see how it's possible. Maybe I'm strict but women should know the boundry of what is legally called the face and hands of which we may show. IE the areas we make wudu on. I'll make a post about this insha'Allah.

But just for now from the edge of the face to that bone right in front of the ear yet covering any hair that naturally grows there. and down the face to the middle of the chin bone and along the jaw bone. Not shoing the under side of the chin as this is part of the neck. it doesn't have to be wahed in wudu therefore it does not count as face but neck. and of course the top to the hairline or where it would noramlly be (for balding or bald women)

So given all that I really don't see how you can show earings.
LOL sorry If again I sound all harsh lol. It does look fab glam but still .....

and as for the pink I love women in pink. This pink is a little too bright for my personal wearing though I'd love to see it on a darker skined sister but I'd prefer a softer pink for me.

American Muslimah Writer: I often do it, show earrings without showing ears. They are chandelier earings (so long) and it is in how I wrap the hijab. I'll post some pics.
Chica said…
Yes pix - pls post pics... i think I know how you do it though... I guess I was just wondering whether this is seen as adorning yourself and you gave me ur opinion so jazakallah for that sis x

Pixie really does have a way to wear earrings with hijab without showing any of the areas that must be covered, I've seen it. It's very modest, but with long dangly earrings peeking out.

LOVE the color! I can't believe the hating going on from the anonymous commenters on wearing colored abayas. They'll probably bury me with angry comments if they saw the abaya pictures I posted on my blog! :)
